First Post
of the New Year!
Today I spent time with olÕ
Smokey
The other day Wade says to
me
ÒYou canÕt just pull her
out, saddle her up
and ride outÓ
Oh HO
Is that a challenge?
Ok
Smokey gets ridden
bi-annually
According to my blog,
the last time was in June
and it lasted about 10
minutes
bareback
I canÕt remember the last
time I saddled her
DonÕt get me wrong
I love Smokey
But her main job is to be
the boss mare
Once in a while itÕs nice
to refresh her memory
she is broke to ride
A bit of history first
This was Smokey the day I
brought her home
Not so pretty
and pregnant
I did not know she was
pregnant
Shortly after that picture
was taken she
aborted her fetus
I bought her at a meat
auction
My goal was to take the
ugliest,
crow-bait looking,
no one would ever want
horse
because otherwise she was
destined to be dog food
I paid less than $100 for
her
she was sold by the
pound
I thought I could rehab
her
and I did
But not before sheÉ
Broke my momÕs leg
Tore out 30 ft of fence
and crashed into the house
and
bit one man so badly he
has a scar
to this day
SheÕs not one to be
trifled with
After lots of time,
patience, groceries
and one buckoff
weÕve come to our
agreement
IÕm good to her
and sheÕs good to me
I ask twice a year for a
trail ride
and she seems to enjoy
that
sheÕs also the shoeing
guinea pig
anyone can work on her
IÕm smiling cause IÕm
alive and in one piece
I brought her out, saddled
up,
stepped on and off we went
SheÕs not so bad
really
you just have to
understand her
Wade doesnÕt
Wade thinks she is the
ugliest thing
EVER
SheÕs a great trail horse
How do you like our back
yard?
This scared the heck out
of her
ItÕs where they launch
ultra-light aircraft
According to Smokey
These things do not belong
in her desert
Wade picked up a deer
antler
OlÕ Smokey can still get
up and gallop!
